A former Laredo middle school teacher has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a student. The teacher was given 33 years in prison for continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. Additional sentences were handed down for indecency with a child and an improper relationship with a student, but these will run concurrently.

The victim, who was 13 at the time of the abuse, spoke during the sentencing phase about the impact of the abuse. The teacher was also fined $20,000. The sentencing followed a conviction on all three counts after a two-day trial in the 341st District Court.
