Gilbert Martinez has made a career transition from coaching to refereeing. He spent over 30 years as a coach before becoming a referee. For more than 10 years, Martinez has been an official football referee under the Texas Association of Sports Officials.

He has led multiple crews and is preparing for another season. Martinez has typically worn the white cap as head referee, but this year he will take on a slightly different role. He will continue to make calls on the field and travel for games.

Further information about Martinez's story is available, including an interview as part of Ellie-Vated Conversations.
