From Madison, Wis.: A competitor's life was lost during a recent endurance event. The athlete had been taking part in a challenging competition when a medical issue arose. Emergency responders were quickly notified and rushed to the scene.

A rescue team already on the water was able to provide immediate assistance and transport the athlete to shore. From there, further care was given by a nearby emergency crew. The event organizer has expressed sympathy for the athlete's loved ones, but will not be releasing any additional information out of respect for their privacy.
